What problems do wildlife cause?

Most of the calls we get are because homeowners hear animals scurrying around inside the attic or walls. Most of the damage inside a houes or attic is unseen. Rodents like squirrels, mice, and rats often chew on electrical wires. Wildlife such as raccoons, bats, birds, opossums, and rats spread several diseases that humans can and do catch, such as Histoplasmosis, Salmonella, Leptospirosis and more. Many critters leave droppings and urine in an attic or cause mold or odor problems. We also handle animals outside the house. It could be a critter that has dug a large hole next to your house, or a raccoon in your garbage cans, an opossum that is stealing pet food, or a skunk living under your deck, causing an odor problem. Some animals destroy your garden or landscaping. Or perhaps you are simply scared of snakes. How Humans And Opossums Interact

The opossum is one of the most adaptable and resourceful animals that can to be found on this planet, and these traits have helped them to thrive in a similar way to humans in North America. These relatively small marsupials will usually be around the size of a domestic cat, and the gray fur that covers most of the body helps to make the white face particularly striking.

Can The Opossum Be Dangerous To Humans?
One of the first South Bend rat control things to note is that although the opossum and humans will often live in fairly close proximity to one another, they rarely come into direct contact because they are generally nocturnal. Probably the most common problem that will bring the opossum into direct contact with humans is if they try and make their nest within a domestic South Bend raccoon removal property. Although they will not do as much damage as some other animals, their feces and urine will often contaminate the area, and they can occasionally bite through a cable or something similar.

One of the main concerns for most people will be whether they can catch South Bend bat removal diseases from an opossum, and this is really very unlikely. Although it is possible for opossums to carry rabies, the prevalence of the disease is much less than in other species such as rodents and even dogs. Around 0.125% (one in eight hundred) of the animals actually carry rabies. Their bodies are at a much lower temperature when compared with other animals, meaning that fewer diseases are likely to be carried.

One area in which opossums can come into conflict with humans is if they are confronted. Although they are shy animals, and will usually flee or ‘play possum’ which can happen if they are startled, they can become aggressive if they have no other alternative. Their sharp teeth can deliver quite a nasty bite, although this will often be more dangerous to overly inquisitive dogs rather than humans.

Keeping An Opossum As A Pet
There are quite a few people who will choose to keep an opossum as a pet, but there are a number of considerations to bear in mind before committing to keeping one. Although they are quite cute animals, they are not always going to be perfect South Bend snake removal companions and cannot be expected to act in the same way as a domestic cat or dog. Firstly, you can only keep on opossum as they are solitary animals and are likely to fight or become stressed if they are aware there is another opossum nearby.

One reason that many people will want to avoid keeping an opossum as a pet is their habit of playing possum if they are startled. Part of this process of playing dead involves a reeking liquid being released from their anal scent glands. For those animals that are kept within a house or shed, this can be very difficult to get rid of. For those who do want to keep an opossum as a pet it is best to tame them from a very young age, and it is important to restrict their diet to food suitable for an opossum as they an eat almost anything. The South Bend bird control problem for many opossum owners is that if they are fed incorrectly they can suffer from a number of conditions that can paralyze them or cause bone deformations that make movement painful. They should also be kept in a large cage and given plenty of exercise either in a garden or a pen.

Dealing With An Opossum On Your Property The majority of wild opossums do not stay in one place, so if there is one in your garden at night then it will rarely return for more than two or three nights. There are laws about catching and domesticating wild animals, so it is wise to check your local South Bend rodent extermination regulations before setting any traps.
